0.0 : ... MATCH DAY ...
Anil Chaudhary, the umpire for the match says they aren’t starting on time, the run up area is an issue and they will assess it at 9:30 am and he hopes things get fine with the sunshine. Nitin Menon, the other umpire says the main concern is the in-field and they will assess the conditions at 9:30 am and informs the wicket is fine.
PITCH REPORT - Ajit Agarkar and Deep Dasgupta are pitchside. Ajit says that the pitch might hold a bit more as it's been under cover and there are a few cracks already. There will be spin on offer and it will be quick spin here. DDG adds that there might also be something early on for the seamers and three out of the last four wins here have come for sides batting second but it's tricky this time around and it might be a good toss to lose.
UPDATE 0935 local time (0405 GMT) - The umpires are in the middle and they have decided that a couple of areas in the infield are still pretty wet and play cannot start unless these areas are considered safe for the fielding side. They also decide that there will be another inspection at 1030 local time (0500 GMT). Stay tuned for further updates.
It is now confirmed that Kane Williamson is ruled out of this Test due to a shoulder injury and Tom Latham will captain the New Zealand side. This also means that neither of the captains from the first Test even feature in the second one. We are pretty sure that this hardly ever happens.
UPDATE 1035 local time (0505 GMT) - Right then, we have good news from the middle. The toss will now take place at 1130 local time (0600 GMT) and play is expected to begin at 1200 local time (0630 GMT). Early Lunch will be taken and the first session will go on from 1200 local time (0630 GMT) till 1440 (0910 GMT). There will be a Tea interval of 20 minutes and the final session will go on from 1500 local time (0930 GMT) till 1730 (1200 GMT).
Excellent display of grit, determination and character from the Kiwi batters saw them salvage a draw in the first Test. Now, it is time for the second and final game of the series. A win for either side will see them seal the series. The Kiwis, after that morale boosting result will be confident heading into this one. The Indians on the other hand, will want nothing less than a win. Mumbai is the venue and we can expect another cracker of a game. Welcome to the coverage.
First things first, let us talk about the weather. Yes, you read it right, the weather! You might be wondering what could be wrong with the weather in December in India, well, it has been raining in Mumbai for the last two days but the good news is, there are no signs of rain today and the conditions seem excellent for cricket.
Now, let’s talk a little about the teams. India first - there’s just the one question looming around everyone’s head right now and that is who will make way for Virat Kohli? Will it be Pujara, will Iyer, who had a magical debut sit out or will Agarwal get the axe? If Agarwal does get dropped, who will open? Too many questions and pretty sure you’ll are as eager to know as we are and we will find out shortly.
The Kiwis, will they go with just the two pacers again or will Neil Wagner get the nod in place of Somerville? The offie wasn’t that effective with the ball but his innings with the bat in his sides’ second essay was pretty crucial. Also, teams usually do not tinker with their winning XI but you just never know considering the problems the visitors’ pacers caused in the last game. All of the above questions too will be answered shortly, stay tuned for the toss in a bit.
The toss which was scheduled for 9 am local (3:30 am GMT) has been delayed due to wet outfield. There will be an official inspection at 9:30 am local (4 am GMT).
We have no official word as of now but it seems like Kane Williamson might not be playing this Test. He might be struggling with the elbow injury he already had. We write this as we see he’s not out there, holding his bat and doing some knocking. If he doesn’t feature, it will be Latham who will lead.
Some team news coming from the Indian camp. Ajinkya Rahane, Ishant Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja have been ruled out of this Test match due to injury concerns. This is a body blow for the hosts. Who will replace them? Virat Kohli will definitely come in for Rahane, probably Siraj for Ishant, but who will replace Jadeja? We'll have to wait and watch.
The wait here continues but if you’re eager to follow some live-action, you can switch tabs and catch all the action from the Lanka game. It is Day 5 there and all three results are possible. A Lanka win or a draw looks a lot more likely than a Windies win but we have seen the West Indian teams do unbelievable things on the last day of Tests before. Also, it is the last day of Mickey Arthur as Lankan coach. Will his side give him the perfect farewell?
TOSS - Up goes the flip of the coin and Tom Latham calls it. The coin lands in favor of Virat Kohli and he elects to BAT first.
India (Playing XI) - Mayank Agarwal, Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli (C) (In for Ajinkya Rahane), Shreyas Iyer, Wriddhiman Saha (WK), Ravichandran Ashwin, Jayant Yadav (In for Ravindra Jadeja), Axar Patel, Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Siraj (In for Ishant Sharma).
New Zealand (Playing XI) - Tom Latham (C), Will Young, Daryl Mitchell (In for Kane Williamson), Ross Taylor, Henry Nicholls, Tom Blundell (WK), Rachin Ravindra, Tim Southee, Ajaz Patel, Kyle Jamieson, William Somerville.
The Indian skipper, Virat Kohli says it looks like a good wicket, nice and hard and today maybe the best day to bat on. Informs there are a few changes, a few niggle based, Rahane, Ishant and Jadeja are out and Yadav, himself and Siraj come in. States they need to do the basics right, New Zealand did really well in the last game, they gave it their all but the Kiwis were really good.
New Zealand captain, Tom Latham says they wanted to bat too but the wicket has been under cover so if there is anything in it, it would be early on. States the way they got the ball to swing in Kanpur was really good and he hopes they can get some here. Mentions the last result was a morale booster and they will try and adapt quickly here too.

Blundell looks to collect the ball but it goes off the outer part towards the off side. Gill makes it back in. This chance needed to be taken. New Zealand need a wicket.
27.3 : Ajaz Patel to Shubman Gill, OUT! TAKEN! They do get it this time as Taylor makes no mistake. Blundell will be a relieved man. A well-deserved wicket for Ajaz Patel. He has been brilliant. He once again gives it air, lands it on off and gets it to turn away. Gill pushes at it, he does so ahead of his body. It goes off the outside edge and Taylor at first slip takes it. So, the umpire has decided it is pad first, he then went onto tell the umpire to remain with his decision but  was later reminded by the on-field umpire to check Ball Tracker.
Ajaz Patel to Virat Kohli, OUT! LBW! Mighty close and this is a hair-scratcher for the third umpire but the decision is made and Virat Kohli is out for a duck! On off and turning in, Kohli looks to stride out and push it out. Kohli misses and the ball raps him on the pads, plumb in front. The visitors appeal and the finger is raised but VK reviews it rightaway. The replays roll in and on UltraEdge we can see that there is bat involved. End of a long and an action-packed session! It seemed like India would be the ones who would be happier of the two heading into the break but New Zealand have fought back really well and they have just the one man to thank and that is Ajaz Patel. The umpires have a discussion and decide that the light is fading and call for Stumps on Day 1.
India’s day eventually and it is all thanks to Mayank Agarwal who has played a brilliant knock. He has scored more than half the runs of his side and is the sole reason for India's position in the game.
It all began for India with Gill and Agarwal. The two added 80 before Ajaz got three wickets in no time. Iyer and Agarwal then put up another stand but Patel struck again. That though was the last wicket as the partnership between Saha and Agarwal, who has completed his hundred, looked unbreakable.
Shubman Gill is up for a quick chat. He says that he was disappointed as he got out after getting set and there was an opportunity to get more runs. Adds that early on there wasn't much spin and only the odd-ball was turning. Mentions that on surfaces like these you play with the spin and try to take the LBW out of the way when facing left-arm off-spinners. Also adds that he hasn't yet got to the hundred-run mark in his 10 Test innings so far but will look to get there soon. About Mayank's inni
Right then! That is all we have from Day 1 of the second Test match. Now India will hope they can somehow get to something around 400. New Zealand. on the other hand. will hope they can get a couple of wickets quickly and keep India in check. Do join us for the coverage of Day 2. The match starts at 9.30 am IST local (0400 GMT). Till then, take care and goodbye!
... Day 2, Session 1 ...
A splendid ton from Agarwal meant India head into Day 2 with their noses just ahead. Ajaz Patel though has helped kept India in check so far. The Kiwis know a couple of wickets quickly and they are right back into this one. The hosts on the other hand, are just one good partnership away from getting to an above par total. The first session of Day 2 is quite an important one. Welcome to the coverage.
What will India be looking for then? 400? Well, if they do get to that mark, it should be a really good total on a wicket which spun quite a lot on Day 1 itself. This pair holds the key, yes there is Ashwin and Jayant still left but have to believe it is not easy for a new batter to get going on this surface.
New Zealand on the other hand, will hope the others can give able support to Ajaz Patel. If not pick wickets, at least stem the run flow, the likes of Ravindra, Kyle and Somerville were quite expensive and the visitors will hope it is a different performance from them today.
We are ready for play! The umpires stride out to the middle as the New Zealand players are seen in a huddle. Out come the overnight batters for India, Wriddhiman Saha and Mayank Agarwal. Tim Southee to get proceedings underway with the ball on Day 2.

A really good fightback from India courtesy a good stand between Agarwal and Axar Patel. After losing two in two balls early on in the day, the duo have batted brilliantly and have crossed the 50-run stand. India will hope they can continue and probably get them close to 350.
Kiwis once again let the advantage they got at the start of the day slip away. Once again was there no support for Ajaz who was once again the pick of the bowlers. There is enough in it for the spinners but Somerville has really not been upto the mark. New Zealand will really hope to break this stand after the break and then make quick work of the lower order. An important session coming up.

An appeal but it is turned d

He has 4 balls to go in this over to take 10. Yadav looks to up the ante, he steps out but gets too close to the pitch of the ball. Test cricket has been played since 1877 and today is only the third time that a bowler has picked up all 10 wickets in an innings! Take a bow Ajaz Patel. Mohammed Siraj swings wildly across the line but gets a top edge. The ball is skied towards mid on and its swirling
0.0 : Review time! After a long chat, Tom Latham decides to take the review for an LBW decision. There's no shot offered and certainly, no bat involved, so they directly go to Ball Tracker. The impact doesn't matter and Ball Tracker confirms that the ball is hitting top of off. The decision is reversed and Axar Patel is given OUT!
109.5 : Coming to the game now, have to say, India will be pretty pleased with the total they have got. Have to say they have got a total which feels above par on this surface and they too have one man to thank and that is Mayank Agarwal. Yes, he did get support from a couple of other batters but it was his innings which could well be the difference in this game. He saw wickets fall at the other end but held fort at one. Axar Patel too played a handy role with the lower-order and the stand between the t
No matter what you're doing at the moment, just take a minute, get up and give this man a standing ovation! Absolutely sensational from Ajaz Patel. He was extremely pleased just knowing that he will be playing in Mumbai, the place where he was born but now, he would be on cloud 9, what an effort, 10 wickets in an innings is a rarity. He leads his side off the field and rightly so. A huge round of applause for him from everyone here and it is well-deserved. Take a bow.
The New Zealand bowling was just about one man, Ajaz Patel. The rest were quite under par. Especially William Somerville and Kyle Jamieson. Tim Southee too bowled his heart out. He did not get a wicket but kept it nice and tight. However, had the left-arm spinner got some support, India may well have ended below 250. A marathon effort though from Ajaz Patel. A moment he will never forget.
Now, New Zealand have to bat really well. The wicket is not easy, it is turning and turning sharply. It is going to take a big effort from their batters if they are to get close to India's first innings score. India on the other hand, would want a good lead but first they would love a couple of wickets before Tea. Stay tuned for New Zealand's reply in a bit.
