Growing up in South Bangalore, I know well that this area isn’t really the ‘it’ place for lounges.

There were just two or three cool hangouts that would serve liquor a decade back.

The scene today is changing and the localities here seem to house good lounges and night clubs. I decided to go and check out one such relatively new place called The Lounge.

I decided to walk in on a Sunday afternoon and soak in the little sunshine between the clouds. This aesthetically done up lounge makes you feel at ease the moment you step in. It is the kind of place where you wouldn’t mind lounging around for hours together. Little nuances, like an old gramophone, add character to this place.

Happy with the choice of venue, I decided to go ahead and place the order. We asked for an Apple Martini, a Mango Buzzz, a Manhattan and a mocktail named Lollypop. For the starters, we ordered a Vegetable Seekh Kebab, a Paneer Tikka variation called Batti Ka Paneer and an Aloo Chaurai, since most of the people on the table were vegetarian. But, I’m told by my friends who’ve been to this place that the chicken, lamb and seafood served here is quite good. The lounge has an Indian kitchen, which means that you don’t have any of the popular bar snacks like peanuts or French fries. Even the snack kept for munching on each table is roasted papad with chutney and pickle.

The barman was quite quick with our drinks and the presentation wasn’t a let down either. The best drink on the table had to be the Mango Buzzz, which is a variation of the popular mango martini. The Apple Martini was quite nice too and the barman had added a dash of cucumber juice, which is an interesting innovation. The Manhattan stuck to the textbook and was impressive.

The only non-alcoholic drink, the Lollypop, which was to be a blend of cream, milk, strawberries and watermelon syrup, was a complete delight for the child inside one.

The vegetarian starters were quite decent. The Batti Ka Paneer stood out, making the cut as the best drink accompaniment.

Tempered with a little extra spice, which was negated by the sweetness of the tender paneer slices, it was sheer delight biting into each piece. The Seekh Kebab was a little dry and disappointing. The aloo starter was alright, a good pick for those that like mildly spiced food. We decided to go in for a pitcher of beer next to check out how good the beer served here is. To our pleasant surprise, it was good and stiff. This lounge is definitely a must check out for all those that live in South Bangalore. It has my thumbs up.
