While the official anthem for FIFA has been composed by Somalian artist K’naan, Shakira has done the more glamourous number Waka Waka. Salim Merchant, on the other hand, has done a song capturing with African artistes called Africa which captures the spirit of the country. DNA got a few Indian artistes to speak about their favourite football anthems as they soak in the flavour of the season.Sona MohapatraI wouldn’t ‘rate’ the football music or songs in any manner but I love Waka Waka, performed by Shakira. It’s got an authentic African flavour mixed with a global dance beat and the line ‘It’s time for Africa’ couldn’t be truer. The world needs Africa to stabilise and prosper. And yeah, I’m all for women power too!PritamI haven’t heard the Salim Merchant song yet but I would like to. I loved the Shakira song. She’s managed to bring in the African flavour while keeping her style. Wavin Flag comes next. It’s a good number too. The music really gets you geared up for the matches.Shruti PathakShakira is a star. She does it so well. Her song and dance in the song is lovely. Salim’s song is very good too. He brings out the spirit of Africa in his track. The fact, that a composer and singer from a non-football playing nation can be part of the FIFA World Cup anthem and perform it at the opening ceremony is huge. He needs to be given credit for that. He’s done a great job.
