Taking appointments in beauty salons just before New Year’s eve is passe. With an increasing number of fairer sex believing that beauty is no longer just skin deep, they are now opting for more long-term solutions. It is now the city-based dermatologists who are getting busy before the year-end party begins.

On an average, dermatologists are getting an increased clientele, mainly women in their mid-30s and 40s, by 25% to 30% from mid-November.

Peels and microderm abrasions are the most popular forms of treatment that women are opting for, this season. “There are various types of peels that are recommended depending on the skin texture. Peels definitely have a more long-lasting effect compared to facials. It helps in improving the skin colour and adds the much desired glow to the skin,” said Dr MK Shetty of Dr Shetty’s Skin and Cosmetic Clinic.

Many women are also opting for fillers this season to fill up skin folds. Many are using fillers even for lip and cheek bone augmentation, said Dr Shetty.

Dr Chytra V Anand, medical director, Kosmoderma Skin and Hair Clinic, observed a 30% increase in the number of clients this festive season. “Botox and fillers generally have a niche market. But during this season, the demand has gone up among women in their 30s and 40s. Another form of treatment that is attracting huge takers across age groups is instant slimming through ultralipo. Six sessions of ultralipo can help reduce about two to three inches,” said Dr Anand.

Apart from peels, hydra facial is hugely popular this season, said Dr Anand. For dehydrated skin, hydra facial is recommended where hyaluronic acid, the form in which water is stored in the skin, is pushed into the skin using ultrasonic waves. This helps the skin hydrate immediately and removes finer lines and creates a healthy look.

“Even a single session of hydra facial is good enough to ensure glowing skin for at least three weeks. And women from various age groups starting from 20s are opting for this,” said Dr Anand. However, a single session of these treatments can only be a quick fix solution for a good skin. One should maintain proper skin regimen throughout the year to ensure a glowing skin, she said.

“We have been getting enquiries about peels everyday for the last one month. Demand is high for glowing flawless skin,” said Dr Sudhamayee Venkatesh, consultant dermatologist, Columbia Asia Hospital.

“Many women with pigmentation, acne and red rashes are approaching us for a solution and to look good this season,” she said. Laser for hair removal is also in demand this season, Venkatesh said.
