Travel Tips: Packing smart

When you leave for a vacation, you want your make-up, matching pairs of shoes and that little black dress, just in case. However, carrying all these things can lead to a heavy bag and a heavier excess baggage charges! Here are a few tips to help you pack smarter:

Counting days
What you pack depends on how many days you’re travelling for, so pack accordingly. You’ll need roughly one or more pair of clothing for each day. In addition to night suits, socks and undergarments.

What’s your type
What you pack, depends largely upon the nature of your trip. Is it a business trip? Is it a beach vacation? Is it a trek into mountains? Is it an urban trip? If you’re going to the mountains, you need scarves and jackets, not your bikini!

Mix-n-match
The black slacks you wore to a horse riding session can be worn with an elegant tunic or a formal top for an evening out in a fancy restaurant. Always carry two-three bottoms and ample number of t-shirts with one or two formal tops thrown in, just in case. If you’re travelling for work, carry two-three formal, comfortable bottoms that can be worn with different tops.

Cosmetology
You don’t have to lug a 300ml shampoo to a three-day trip. Get mini-packs and put them in a pouch. Finding a moisturiser shouldn’t require a treasure hunt!

Extras help
Always keep a fresh set of clothes in your carry-on luggage on a flight. In case your luggage is misplaced, you always have a pair to freshen up before you hit the high-streets!

Converting units
If you’re travelling abroad, make sure you carry a multi-switch adapter to fit your chargers into. After all, the trip might recharge you, but your camera and phone still need electricity!

Watch your weight
Check the weight regulations for the airline and the destination you’re travelling to. Many airlines allow one bag per person and levy a charge for additional bags.
