Reminisce about the past is what artist KR Santhana Krishnan aims to do through an unusual art form.
At a time when there’s a lot of movement happening between cities and our life couldn’t get faster than this, nostalgia driven artist K R Santhana Krishnan, brings forth a slice of his native village, Kumbakonam, through his door paintings.
His passion uses a strange and unusual medium — doors, and his interpretations of doorways reveal the intimate memories of the way of life.
“I grew up in the most orthodox area of Kumbakonam, where I’ve seen doors of such variety that it actually hooked me on to this profession. What’s more, I lived in a house that had over 80 doors,” he muses.
The artist, who has created over 800 doors now, informs that his doors outline a strong sense of nostalgia and strikes a connection with people from all over the world. The doors and the world beyond it actually tell stories of those who live inside.
As the thulasi madam, pump set almost fade into oblivion, Santhana’s paintings take us into a state of reverie.
