'The only wrong thing is to say nothing': Meghan Markle speaks up on #BlackLivesMatter

Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, showed her support to the #BlackLivesMatter movement. While empathizing with George Floyd's demise, Meghan also reminded that other lives also matter. Stating that the events in US were 'devestating', Meghan recorded a video for students graduating from her old school in Los Angeles. The video aired on Wednesday.

"I know you know that black lives matter," Meghan started saying in the video. "For the past couple of weeks I've been planning on saying a few words to you for your graduation and as we've all seen over the last week what is happening in our country, and in our state and in our home town of LA is absolutely devastating," she added.

"First thing I want to say to you is that I'm sorry, I'm so sorry that you have to grow up in a world where this is still present," she said, also stressing, "The only wrong thing to say is to say nothing. Because George Floyd's life mattered, and Breonna Taylor's life mattered, and Philando Castile's life mattered and Tamir Rice's life mattered and so did so many other people whose names we know, and whose names we do not know."

Meghan also recollected the 1992 LA riots, and said that they were experiencing a 'different version of the same type of experience' at the age of 17-18. She stated that it should have been an understanding as a history lesson and not as a reality. In conclusion, she apologized they were not able to bring the world in a place they deserved to be in.
