Take a docu tour of Rajasthan or the city’s many bylanes

A photograph showing Gandhi statue’s in a city bylane with his feet stuck to the ground due to a road paving process gone awry; a community gathering in the deserts of Rajasthan or a prominent figure standing next to his wax statue are some of the various shots captured on lens by four photographers.

Several such images — be it quirky images of day to day life, of people, communities or art and all such documented photographs taken by these photographers are being converted into art photography at a forthcoming art exhibition.

Curated by artist Bose Krishnamachari, the exhibition — Docu Tour — beginning from July 5 and being held at Gallery BMB will showcase prints which explore various formal strategies that are employed to transform the photo document into an artwork.

“As a curator in today’s new economic context, I am extremely interested in moving forward towards an investigation of different types of art works, which were perhaps rather less prevalent in recent years.

In this time of introspection and new beginnings, I find this is the ideal moment to investigate the parameters and diversity of such photographic practice”, says Krishnamachari.

On show are 11 prints by Gauri Gill, three prints by Vivek Vilasini, three (along with 2 videos) by Anup Mathew Thomas and over 1,000 photos by Shankar Natarajan.
