If Gucci’s knitted balaclava in jacquard wool took the runway by storm last season, the Autumn-Winter 2019 is all about the wrap-around shawl details. Seen on the runways of Bobby Abley, E Tautz, Kent & Curwen and Nicholas Daley — the Harry Potter Scarf made a triumphant splash. Multi-hued, striped and in serpent-like long shape — these additions spiced up the runway ensembles at London, Milan and Paris Fashion Weeks.

However, in Mumbai’s muggy weather and non-existent winters, they may not have much usage. Designer Nikhil Thampi who recently returned to Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 19, says, “A lot of this depends on the geographic location. In a city like Mumbai, one would not want to warm themselves up with a muffler or a shawl. Moving upward to the North, I would see a lot of people invest in it as it depends on the climate. Like for Mumbai, if we adorn a scarf, it’s purely for styling reasons to enhance the look. If I were ever to incorporate the muffler and shawl in my collection, I would work with a typical summer collection designed with light breathable fabrics. The collection would include bright bold patterns and I would use the scarf as a belt on trousers which will give an interesting cool look.”
