STYLE HUNTER: Disco divas are here to stay

If Hedi Slimane brought back Saturday Night Fever at Celine with his high-voltage sequinned minis, Anthony Vaccarello presented chainmail reimagined in interlocking star motifs. Rahul Mishra’s take on shine was rather dainty and poetic with him texturing his pieces mimicking the early morning dew drops on leaves. Miu Miu’s fun take on sparkle was rather girlie where the mini dresses were accented with shimmery bows. On the other hand, John Galliano at Maison Margiela sent out a pillow-inspired holographic clutch and Balmain’s runway saw many ‘80s inspired statement shoulder blazers. Dries Van Noten’s take on shine was rather exuberant as he flirted with jelly-like tassels.

Stylist Eshaa Aminn recalls that last year during the festive season too, metallics in all hues were major and party pieces inspired by disco and rock n roll were having a moment and she sees that trend being carried forward. “One saw glam, sequinned, bling dresses, sheathed in gold, silver and copper last part season too, and this time, it’s gone a notch higher- from Alexander McQueen to Topshop using rainbow sequinned dresses. These glam pieces make styling a cakewalk as it’s just the fabric which is enough to create the drama. This high gloss look has also been assimilated in make-up from the hair to the eye shadows and even nail colours. The Saint Laurent chainmail could be an interesting trend to adapt to if done with a sophisticated touch,” says Eshaa. It’d be interesting to see how this glitter fury is seen on our Indian red carpet during the upcoming awards season.
