Style check: Women — Version 3.0

A slight tweak when it comes to the attitude and a mind that allows you to experiment — to survive in the mad jungle called life, sometimes all a woman has to do is give herself the chance to be different. This edition of DNA Look Of The Week brings to you a makeover that will not only bring out the best in you but also add that extra sparkle to your personality. Going with Bangalore-based fashion designer Deepika Govind’s latest collection, Pop Patola, which we believe celebrates the essence of womanhood, DNA conspires with model Apoorva Vishwanathan, who oscillates between the corporate and glamour world confidently, and photographer Rakesh Ravindran to bring you a brand new look.

Talking tresses
Whatever hairstyle you choose with this specific outfit, you are going to look different with each one. In this case, Romi divided Apoorva’s hair in two different sections to begin with.

The front was first combed back to create a little volume and the slightly messed-up look. Then it was pinned at the back with the rest of the hair rolled up in a bun. Romi also added a false braid to the bun make Apoorva’s naturally beautiful hair bigger. The updo is not only neater but stays in place the whole day if you need it to.

Colour me pretty
It’s not always possible for a woman to wake up in the morning and slap oodles of colour onto her face. For this specific look, Romi Thokchom gave Apoorva a look that is acceptable by day and/or evening.

Using a concealer and base to cover any unevenness, Romi went on to focus on Apoorva’s eyes. First using a neutral eye shadow to cover the lids, Romi used eye liner and kohl generously to define Apoorva’s eyes.

Using false eyeslashes for the shoot, which can be replaced by mascara in reality, Apoorva’s eyes looked wider and seductive. For the lips, a slightly peach-pink lipstick was used but not before using a similar shade of blush-on to highlight her cheekbones.

Dress me up
A sari does not have to be cumbersome. Apoorva’s ensemble, in Persian blue silk tulle with Benarasi jacquard in the pleats and patola on the pallu, is the perfect example of how one can be in a sari all day easily. Bold embroidery, inspired by the Gujarati style of thread work, along the border pushes the outfit a few notches up the glamour scale.

Pair that with a light tangerine sari blouse in pop art print and Apoorva looked like a diva. The blouse, stitched conservatively, can be tucked into the waist to create a more prim look.

Accessorise me
With so much happening on the blouse and the sari, it’s not recommended to wear much jewellery. Apoorva was given small drop earrings, shaped like a spoked wheel studded with semi-precious stones that matched the outfit perfectly.

On her finger was a big cocktail ring, which can be ditched if you’re using this look for the day and replaced with something daintier. For her feet, Apoorva wore bright red, patent leather, nearly-naughty boy shoes that brought in the element of quirky to the outfit. Shoes such as this also help one to walk around more comfortably.
