Staging an intervention

Strobe lights were set for the impending fashion gala at Hotel Sahara Star’s jade ballroom. But what woman and child development NGO Lakshyam and brand equity management WCRC’s Wednesday fund-raiser really threw light on was a host of compelling social issues.

Fittingly titled ‘Fashion for a Cause’, the show drew its panache from a colourful crew of entrepreneurs, social leaders and Bollywood personalities waking hand-in-hand over shared intent and aesthetics. With top designers like Ritu Kumar, Varun Behl, Rohit Bal, Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna behind the scene, attractions were amped up as Mugdha Godse, Shriya Saran, Rohit Roy, Rajeev Khandelwal​ and gang sashayed forth.

As the show-stopper for designers Manoj and Wandy Mehra, actor Anupam Kher (right) smashed stereotypes in a wood-coloured ethnic skirt paired elegantly with a shawl.

The multi-pronged event also saw awards being handed out to women achievers like Susanne Khan, Farah Khan Ali, Grace Pinto, Shibani Bedi and path-breakers of their ilk.

During the course of the event, pan-Indian organisation Lakshyam consolidated awareness about their many empowerment  initiatives of providing education, distributing books and toys to underprivileged children, and enabling women.

Wrapping up with a cute dance recital by kids from Lakshyam, the night channelled Miss Diva Universe 2016 Roshmita Harimurthy’s observation, “Fashion is the point of attraction to trick the crowd in—the real rallying point are the causes that need our attention”. And attention it got galore.
