DNA lists out some of the spas in Mumbai suburbs — which are not located within five-star hotels — that offer to rejuvenate your senses and lift your spirits.
Moksham Fusion Spa, Khar
On the bustling street of Linking Road, this fusion spa in one of the narrow lanes is a surprise package. The spa calls itself fusion as they blend two techniques — Thai with Swedish massage or Indian with Balinese massage. And there are several other combos. One needs to choose their therapies in accordance with their ailments and body’s resistance power. We go in for a Balinese with Thai combination massage. The place that looks small from the outside turns out to be quite spacious and quaint contradictory to its surroundings. The soothing music and dim lighting make way for 60 minutes of sheer removal of stress from the muscles and relaxation. The experience leads us to take a quick nap in between the rubbing and finger tip pressure that calms every vein in the body. As we walk out, a calm pervade the mind and lingers on long after. It’s surely worth a second try.
Aura Thai Spa, Bandra
Located in the posh Pali Hill, this spa reminds us of local spas in Bangkok. As we enter we find the typical ambience — soothing and a rather strong aroma of lemon grass oil mostly found in spas all over Thailand. There aren’t any specific rooms here, but four-five partitioned cabins with distinct low-lying beds. As we choose the basic Thai massage with herbal buns, our masseuse, a young Thai girl, but an expert in her technique, asks in her broken English about our problem areas which she needs to attend to with more concentration. The massage begins with dry but effective rubbing that sets your mood for the next one hour. However The pleasant experience of our masseuse’s work is marred by the sheer lack of sound-proofing in the massage area. The conversation from the reception area disturbs the silence needed for a good massage. However, as soon as every pressure point in the body is addressed you forget the noise and go back to feeling good again. We’re definitely going back, courtesy the expert therapists’ magic work on our strained muscles. But don’t forget to carry your earplugs!
Angdai Day Spa, Khar
Angdai offers latest treatments and services including a bouquet of body massages, exfoliation techniques, wraps, clean ups, rituals and hand and feet care. If you are always in a hurry, but want to squeeze in some time for a quick rejuvenating service, try the black mask. Known to have 380 active oligo (minerals and trace) elements it boosts the cells, helps in cellular metabolism and a brightened complexion amongst many other benefits. It offers massages ranging from Aroma, Thai, Swedish, deep tissue, among others. Try the back spa with stone therapy that helps wash away fatigue as it works magic on tired muscles of the shoulder and back.
The Four fountains Spa, Powai
This pan-India chain of affordable health spas offers therapies for distressing, detoxification, immunity and beauty. There are holistic packages for men and women, as well as bride and groom packages. It has an interesting menu that classifies spa therapies by benefit rather than type. On offer are more than 20 massages, body polishes, body wraps and facials from around the world. International massages like Aromatherapy, Thai, Swedish and Foot Reflexology rub shoulders with Indian massages like the ayurvedic and head-neck-shoulder massage.
Snip Salon and Spa, Bandra
The first Mumbai outpost of a Goa favourite, it features a service menu offering a ton of fruit in unusual avatars — yam and pumpkin pedicure, blueberry soy facial, raspberry sorbet scrub, sour cherry face pack for men. The menu lists Hungarian organic facials and detoxifying herbal mud packs, which come with complimentary back rubs.
Iosis Medi Spa, Khar
Want toned abs and legs? Go for the Anti-cellulite massage that will assist in the cellulite reduction by mobilising it. Best results can be reaped if done in combination with proper diet and exercise. They even have on offer Pre-natal massage that helps reduce stress, decrease swelling in the arms and legs, and relieve aches and pains in muscles and joints. Apart from these, there are regular reflexology, deep tissue, Aroma and hot stone massages, body scrubs, body wraps and hydrotherapy.
Chandan Sparsh, Lokhandwala
Every massage has a specific purpose and uses different techniques to achieve different goals here. Pick from their menu with interesting massages. If you are an athlete, go for their Sports massage that is essentially a form of Swedish massage which can also help speed recovery from injury. Try the Balinese massage therapy that brings together several alternative practices such as acupressure, reflexology and aromatherapy which not only relax and soothe you but also bring a deep state of relaxation and wellness.
Kallisto Spa & Salon, Juhu
Loyalists vouch for its pretty decor. And the spa itself prides itself for using only the most exclusive products. Some of its popular treatments and therapies include anti-pollution facial, anti-ageing facial, glow and rejuvenation treatments and body detox massage, apart from regular hot stone, Thai, Aroma and deep tissue massages.
