The band Slayer is slated to perform on October 20 for the Rock ‘n India show in Bengaluru, and not on September 20.
Five Indian bands have been nominated for the upcoming Europe Music Awards 2012 under the ‘Worldwide Act Award’ category that was introduced last year. And while last year it was only one band, Scribe, that managed to make it to the nominations, this time around there are five. The nominees for this year include, iconic rock band Indus Creed; Delhi-based rock band Menwhopause; the contemporary progressive rock band from North-East Alobo Naga & The Band; Bandish Projekt featuring Monica Dogra, and Portuguese Goan singer-songwriter, producer Oliver Sean.
The favourite artists for Best Worldwide Act Award will be chosen from 89 different countries, but only one winner can emerge from votes compiled on MTVEMA.com. The category was created with the aim to celebrate the breadth of all the music that the music channel has to offer by nominating incredible artists from all corners of the world. This award celebrates both the uniqueness of music from different countries and regions of the world, and its unifying force. “It gives us great pleasure to bring coveted international awards of such magnitude to our Indian audiences,” comments Ferzad Palia, SVP & GM — English Entertainment, Viacom18 Media Pvt Ltd. “We are really proud that this year we have not one but five nominations from our country for the Worldwide Act category. All the bands nominated are equally talented and popular and enjoy tremendous fan following in India. Also the best part of these awards is that fans can actually become part of them by voting for their favourite artist. We wish them all the very best.”
The voting process for ‘The Best Indian Act’ ends on October 14. Fans can vote for their favourite Indian artist until 11:59 pm. The voting process then moves to the next level with fans voting for the final five nominees, ultimately selecting the winner for the Worldwide Act category. The Europe Music Awards 2012, that will be aired on Vh1, has been divided into five regions for the Worldwide Act category – Asia-Pacific, Latin America, North America, Middle East-Africa-India and Europe. The final nominee from each region will be announced online on October 30. These five regional nominees will then battle for the ultimate Worldwide
Act title.
