This winter the night’s dressed in purple, so bring those aubergines and grapes into your wardrobe, now!
It isn’t the colour of royalty anymore, for while purple has always been associated with counts, carriages and kings, it is also high season when it comes to winter. Hot on catwalks, French First Lady and fashionista
Carla Bruni wore a formal dress in the colour, actor Jennifer Aniston sported a purple bikini this Thanksgiving, Michelle Monaghan wore a purple ruffled Lanvin dress at the premiere of the new Sofia Coppola film and Indian hottie Mallika Sherawat donned a purple gown at the 2010 Doha Tribeca Film Festival, just recently.
Fashion speak
Says designer Falguni Peacock, “Purple’s a winter colour for sure . We’ve got lots of enquiries for outfits in deep shades of the colour. While for guys a two-tone purple tie looks great, for girls I’d advise purple dresses in an asymmetrical cut with feathers on it.”Neeta Lulla seconds that pink and purple are the colours of the season. “I just bought my husband a purple shirt in the colour,” she says. “Short dresses look great in it. I would mix crochet with purple for effect. Tight-fitted leggings or sheer stockings with an oversized shirt will look fantastic!”
Accessorising it
“Purple is the new red and there are also a lot more purple options available. I just bought purple shoes,” informs business woman Gayatri Ruia.
Jewellery can also draw attention to the colour. Falguni says purple and gold add a stunning effect. “If you’re wearing a black dress go with a deep purple lipstick and shoes.”
For Neeta scarves and bags in purple work well and purple is also the new black when it comes to nail colour, boots and metallic belts. With the trend in place, are you going high-street with ultra-violet, soon?
