A supermarket in England has been ordered to pay a £10,500 compensation to a shopper who slipped on a grape in one of its stores.Thomas Wardle slipped at the Rivergate store in Peterborough, a branch of Asda, in January 2008, reports the Daily Mail. The company apologised for failing to meet its ‘high standards’ following the ruling at Peterborough County Court on Friday. Asda was ordered to pay £10,500 damages, as well as pay £18,000 in legal costs. However, a spokesperson for the firm denied there was an issue with cleanliness at the store. He said that the judge in Wardle's case had taken a dim view of the supermarket's record-keeping of cleaning. Though it is not known what his injuries were, David Heming, head of personal injury at HC solicitors, in Peterborough said an award of that size was likely to be a soft tissue injury to the victim's back. In the other cases faced by Asda, someone is claiming they slipped on mayonnaise, which had been spilled on the floor, while another customer claims they were injured by falling on some food. All three incidents relate to January 2008, but have only just come to light after last week's grape case.
