This Christmas, the mood is dress in metallic shades, say fashionistas. What with the celebrity circuit being spotted in sequinned, blingy and shiny outfits almost every other day, sequins and shine are back and how!

Take our Bollywood ladies for instance. Sometime back, actress Deepika Padukone was spotted in a sequinned skirt, actress Bipasha Basu in a white sequinned jumpsuit at socialite Paris Hilton’s party and actress Kareena Kapoor’s red carpet appearance in a sequinned black gown didn’t go unnoticed either.

Designer Lina Tipnis decodes the trend: “Matt metallic is in vogue now. The 80s metallic has been hugely reinvented. And it’s not the blingy and the theatrical metallic; it’s more of a clean sophistication that has come back with this timeless fashion trend. A lot of sheath embroidery is happening and you’ll see a lot of alloy colours like pewter, brass, bronzes and coppers.” She reveals that graphic patterns in metallic look lovely. “Sequins this season are lightweight, but they can create an edgy, a fun or a flirty look!” says Lina.

Designer Archana Kochhar feels every woman loves a bit of bling. “An outfit that’s full of diamonds is not only expensive but also very heavy. In contrast, sequins are a very nice way of wearing bling. It’s lightweight and yet has the same blingy effect,” she explains, adding that sequins, metallic or diamantes are being used in Indian wear as well— be it ghagras, saris or kurtas.

Model Aanchal Kumar has a couple of dresses entirely in metallic. “Humidity and bling just don’t go well at all. But it’s December and everything’s so lit up and bright, so it’s nice to wear some shiny stuff. I have metallic bags and accessories too and I’m very comfortable sporting them,” she smiles.
