Have you imagined sitting on your computer and watching a live gig, as it proceeds in some other part of the city? The novel idea of webcerts will soon be a reality for Indian music fans as Shibani Kashyap and Naksh-Sargam take to the stage and perform for their online audience, on Thursday.
The idea is the brainchild of Artistaloud who want independent artiste to be accessible to their fans in their homes. The live concert will not have any auditorium audience and the concert will be deferred by five to ten seconds.
Shibani Kashyap, who will do the first webcert in India, says that it is a way of reaching out to more people. “I can reach out to millions as they watch the concert from different parts of the world.
The audiences can also send in online text messages requesting for songs. It will appear on the computer in front of me and I can then sing the requested track. It’s a first so I am really looking forward to seeing how it works out,” she says.
Sona Mohapatra who is in talks with the website to do an online live concert says that webcerts are a good idea to introduce online users to the electric spirit of a live concert. “I think we should get out of the house and experience a live concert first-hand. But online concerts are a way to sample live music to the audience and to draw them to the magic of a real live concert. Our live music scene sucks and this could be interesting,” she says.
Other artistes who will be taking to the web-stage include bands like Parikrama, Avial, Euphoria and others.
