A new study has claimed that reality TV shows turn women into “mean girls”.According to the study conducted by the Girl Scouts Research Institute, these ‘mean girls’ accept and expect a higher level of drama and aggression in their lives.“Teen girls who regularly view reality TV accept and expect a higher level of drama, aggression, and bullying in their own lives, and measure their worth primarily by their physical appearance,” TMZ.com quoted the study as saying.A rep for the institute also noted that reality TV shows “more frequently portray girls and women in competition with one another rather than in support or collaboration and this perpetuates a ‘mean girl’ stereotype and normalises this behaviour among girls who are watching the show”.
