Lip care during summers is often neglected. Chapsticks are mostly seen as winter essentials, however, not many realise that dry air extracts natural moisture from the lips making them chapped. Some men shy away from using chapsticks for the fear of being bracketed into the ‘gay’ category. However, there are a few who understand how imperative it is to keep this essential as part of their daily grooming regime. Actor Rahul Khanna swears by Kiehl’s lip balm and model Freddy Daruwala’s vanity case is incomplete without a chapstick. Model Sahil Shroff too uses lip balm regularly and especially while travelling. He prefers good old Vaseline and The Body Shop lip balm. “Some guys are coy about using chapsticks. They won’t admit to using it. Some of them sneak it in their pockets and act all tough. However, they don’t realise that women have no problems with men using it and in fact, it adds to their charm,” says Sahil.    Lips are most prone to weather change They react to dryness in the air almost instantly. Tanushree Saxena, Senior Manager, Marketing and Brand Communication, Forest Essentials says, “This happens because dry air saps the natural moisture from the lips, making them either chapped or just coarse textured. Whether you are a man or a woman, your lips are made of very sensitive thin layers of skin. If they lack hydration, lips will dry up and leave you with a feeling of discomfort.” The skin of the lips is very thinThis area is prone to dryness due to weather extremities. Debabani Guha, Trainer, L’Occitane India says, “During summers due to dehydration and high temperatures the lips become dry. Also, smoking causes patchy and dark lips. To protect the lips from such damage, lip care is very important in summers for men as well.” Most percieve lip care to be a winter phenomenon but it is as important in the oppressive summer months. “Forest Essentials lip balms are made with the base of Kokum Butter which contains healing ingredients including vitamins, minerals, proteins and a unique fatty acid profile. These fatty acids are indispensable for their emollient or softening properties. Organic Beeswax deeply nourishes and restores elasticity to the skin,” says Tanushree.  Debabani adds, “L’Occitane  moisturising Shea Lip Balm is rich in Shea butter and helps moisturise, repair and protect dry and chapped lips.
