How would compare modern v/s traditional interiors?
It is just like modern times versus the olden times. A lot of people prefer modern interiors today because it’s easy to maintain, plus it’s simple to set up. On the other hand, the traditional look is richer and one can have it for for several years.

It also brings in lot of colours and adds that old world charm to the overall look of the house. However, it involves high maintenance. It is wise to mix both the concepts. Probably the puja room in the house can be done in a traditional manner, while the rest of the rooms can be done in a modern set up. Nevertheless, don’t mix both in one room!

What role does vaastu and feng shui play in designing?
Though I personally don’t believe in it, it plays a huge role in India. A lot of customers give importance to vaastu and it’s our duty to respect their needs. For instance, if a bed has to be placed in a certain direction, we do it. We try and set it up in a manner that complies with the vaastu settings as well as the needs of the customer.

Does interior designing have to be very expensive? What does the cost really depend on?
It depends on how one looks at the entire deal. In this profession there are both high-end designers as well as low-end designers. You’d naturally hire someone who can do your job according to your budget. In case you already have things you want to incorpate into your home, we try and work with what you have. The cost factor, apart from your taste, also depends on what kind of work is going into the house.

If someone wants to go in for a proper interior design, yet don’t have the budget, where can they look for help?
One can flip through interior designing magazines to get an overall hang of the concept. Depending on what they would like to have and how they would want to do their house, customers can start buying pieces accordingly. A lot of home stores across the city are the best bet to pick up artefacts and other decorative items. Plan out as to how you want to do up each room and buy accordingly. However, a little bit of creative idea is required.

What are some of the new trends that people can look forward too?
Trends don’t really work when it comes to setting up homes. There is a considerable number of people who prefer modern homes, as well as traditional set-ups. One’s personal taste is what eventually matters. A person’s lifestyle is reflected in a home - the way they’ve grown up and what they like. But mostly, a practical set-up is what people prefer, over fancy decorations that is. So, trends really don’t matter.

Is eco architecture and designing getting popular?
Eco architecture is the new do.  A lot of people are keen on using earth friendly materials for their homes to make it as green as possible. The concept of using bricks, stones and other materials are getting very popular. However, it is an expensive affair.
