Award-winning novelist Paulo Coelho is impressed with film-maker Vikramaditya Motwane’s Udaan. Coelho watched the movie at this year’s Cannes film festival and immediately took a liking to it. Coelho, who generally writes on drama and psychological topics, has apparently been so inspired by Motwane’s work that he has shown an inclination to read the script of the movie. This is a huge honour for Motwane, who had earlier written movies like Dev.D and Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal.
A source says, “Not many films touch Coelho’s heart. But this movie did. And if someone like Coelho likes a movie, it grows bigger in stature. It’s a great respect for this small-budget film.”
Though Motwane is tight-lipped about the development, he just tells us, “I love his (Coelho’s) writings — they are very thought-provoking. But as of now I’m busy preparing a screening for Sanjay Leela Bhansali, my mentor, in Mumbai as soon as all the work on the film is over. I’m blessed that such eminent personalities, including my producer Anurag Kashyap, have been behind me to support my project.”
