As the freakshake fever that began in Australia spreads in Mumbai, Pooja Bhula goes around the city to hunt down the best. Here's how they stack up
Though offered on the 'Shakes' section of 145's menu, our top choice, The Mighty Oreo Shake is tall, dark and very much 'freaky' in the over-the-top decadent way freakshakes are meant to be. The Oreo-pinned shake glass holds a drizzle of chocolate sauce and overdose-inducing Oreo shake. The rim, ringed with whipped cream, carries a plain cookie used as the base for an edible mountain of—Oreos sitting on and encircled by white and chocolate-flavoured whipped cream, Gems and Cadbury's Chocolate Shots sprinkled all over, more Oreos (open and halved) poked-in and pieces of Kit Kat too. Throning it is a melt-in-the-mouth marshmellow. Despite the decorations, this freakshake is not only irresistible, but also easy to drink thanks to its medium-thick consistency and the thoughtful straw placed in the glass before the crazy toppings got loaded.

If looks could kill, this 500ml mason jar of hazelnut bliss, which has earned second spot, surely would. Its chocolate-sauce slathered exterior, is generously decorated with mud (again chocolate) and split hazelnuts. The layers of goodness start inside with a chilled, thick shake of ice cream, whipped cream, Nutella and hazelnut, followed by a scoop of vanilla—and peak outside with a topping of hazelnut-coffee mousse cream, followed by more chocolate sauce and finally a choco-bite-style chocolate candy stick. Served on a black, high dessert plate, its rich quantity make the sinful freakshake sweeter when shared. Sip it, spoon it, savour it.

For the third place, there's a tie between three of Mighty Small's six Big Fat 'Crazy Shakes'. Served in mason jars, they have an interesting combination of flavours and delectable garnish. The Mint Chocolate Chip shake, which also has crushed triple brownie, is topped with whipped cream, drizzled with mint syrup and crowned with mint meringue. The Apple Cinnamon one is blended with salted caramel, topped with whipped cream and lots of caramelised apple with cinnamon turning it into a liquid apple pie of sorts. And finally, the comforting Banana shake brings together flavours of the fruit, Nutella and peanut butter, topped with whipped cream and yummy little pretzels.
Price: Rs300
Heat the 400 gm full cream, 400gm full cream milk and 50 gm white sugar and bring to a boil. Then turn off the flame and whisk the dark Coverture chocolate (60%) in it. Strain. Place a lid on the vessel and leave in fridge overnight.
The next day decorate glass with chocolate syrup, place 5 ice cubes, put on it one scoop of vanilla ice cream and one scoop of chocolate ice cream.
Next, fill the glass with the cold chocolate drink mix and top it up with milk for marbling effect.
Use a star nozzle and piping bag to create a big pyramid with whipped cream, decorate it with Melbourne tram transfer sheet and colourful macaroon shells. Throw in some colourful sprinkles and drizzle some more chocolate syrup.
