Hi. Pranav here. This is how I, born and brought up in Meerut, came to be finally settled in Morden in Manitoba, Canada.

Taking up engineering

No. I did not want to become an engineer. My father did. Want me to become an engineer like him, that is. I was more interested in Graphic Designing or Data Sciences.

But then, being an only child of my parents, I had to live up to their expectations. Whether I liked it or not.

Don’t get me wrong, my parents were not too rigid with me or anything, but I knew they wanted me to become an engineer some day. I knew that would make them happy. So, I did take admission in an engineering college.

An engineer, finally

I was a certified engineer now. An Architectural Engineer, to be precise. No, I am not an architect. Though similar sounding and usually working in close association with each other, an Architect and Architectural Engineer are entirely different occupations altogether.

After my Bachelor in Science or BSc, I decided to take up a job in Delhi while I pursued my Master’s online from the Kanpur University.

I had been working for something a little over a year when I finally told my parents my plans of immigrating. They were shocked, to say the least. An only child, going abroad. Somehow those two factors did not come in their minds on the same page.

Took a lot of convincing on my part, even family intervention when my maternal uncle had to come and discuss everything.

Immigration, a family decision

That’s the time when we – my uncle, father, mother and me – decided to attend a counselling session for visa and immigration. I went to Y-Axis right away as it was recommended by some of my close friends. Anyway, we attended the free counselling session. They suggested that I try Australia or Canada.

For my job as Architectural Engineer, I felt Canada immigration would be the better option.

So, we began with discussing how best to make sure that my Canada PR application was accepted the first time itself.

My Y-Axis consultant explained to me the importance of submitting a Decision Ready Application, that is, an application that is complete in all respects and also has all the documentation that might be required for processing.

They also told me how important it was to be truthful in my visa and immigration application. My consultant told me about the consequences of misrepresenting facts.

I took my time to go over each of the finer details.

By then we, my parents and I, had decided that I would first go to Canada alone and then call them to Canada as my dependents. Canada has a Parents and Grandparents visa category.

Thankfully, they had agreed to come to Canada by this time.

Provincial route to Canada PR

I took the provincial route to Canada PR. By provincial route I mean getting a province or territory in Canada to nominate you for receiving your permanent residence in Canada.

The provincial route offers an expedited pathway for Canada immigration. Majority of immigrants to Canada end up settling in and around prominent cities like Toronto, Vancouver etc. So, the Canadian government has been exploring ways of diverting the influx of immigrants elsewhere.

This is where the provincial governments come in. I began with making my Express Entry profile. Then, as suggested by my Y-Axis consultant, I also made my Expression of Interest profile with some of the provincial nomination programs.

I made my EOI with Manitoba, Ontario, British Columbia and Saskatchewan.

Manitoba beckons

To cut a long story short, I eventually got my invitation to apply from Manitoba PNP. They had given a certain time within which to submit my completed application to them for a nomination.

My Nomination Certificate was sent to my IRCC MyAccount.

Once I had my Nomination Certificate with me, I then submitted my application for permanent residence with the federal government of Canada. As I had applied through Morden’s Community Driven Immigration Initiative, I had to settle within Morden city in Manitoba.

Morden, my new home

I am now in Morden. Been a good journey so far for me, from India to Canada. I find the people in Morden to be quite friendly and open to immigrants.

I might relocate to some other place within Canada in the coming future. But, for now, Manitoba’s Morden city is my new home.

A home that I have no qualms in welcoming others to!
