What happens when soulful music is mixed with slapstick comedy? Definitely the effect on music will be not-so-sweet. However, with Raghu Dixit at the mic, melody can’t go wrong and music can never be bland. Add a dash of AIB (All India Bakchod) tongue-in-cheek jabs and the evening is made. So when the AIB and The Raghu Dixit Project come together tomorrow at blueFrog for Not So Sweet concert, it sounds a bit contrary to its name.
“We will be working on mixing stand-up comedy with our music and that is something we haven’t really done before and when we were approached for it, it seemed like a fantastic thing to try,” says Raghu. But when asked if mixing comedy with music is a good idea, the musician says, “Our shows have always had a lot of talking with the crowd and jokes that the band members crack on stage and with the audience. But we are planning some sketches and special things for this show, for which I am honestly quite nervous about.”
The musician can be nervous about comedy but the comedians are looking for a field day.
“For the first time we are collaborating with Raghu Dixit. He is a chilled out guy and he gets great energy on the stage. It should be fun. It is cool to be dealing with somebody, whose gig we used to attend as an audience earlier,” says Ashish Shakya from AIB.
The collaborative show, inspired by shows like Saturday Night Live, will be split into three parts — beginning with a half hour stand-up show, leading into a dialogue between the band and the comedians and culminating with a one-hour long set by the band.
“We will be doing a surprise set with the AIB team, and that is something very special and unique for this show. I can’t tell you details about that set, you will just have to come and see it,” says Raghu. However, Ashish gives more details of the gig. “You will see us doing stand-up comedy including funny songs and there will be a collaborative segment where AIB and Raghu Dixit will be on the stage together to create content. So it will be a night offering an unforgettable mix of both music and comedy,” he says.
