Lohri, Makar Sankranti special recipe: These easy-to-make til laddus will make your festival more delicious

Every year, people celebrate Lohri and Makar Sankranti by making til (sesame seeds) laddus. These laddus are used in worship, and eating them also helps keep the body warm. Eating sesame seeds in winter is very beneficial for health and thus, these laddus not only are super delicious but provide certain benefits to the body. Black and white sesame seeds contain excellent sources of riboflavin, niacin, thiamine, zinc, copper, manganese, magnesium, protein, fibre, phosphorus and iron. On the occasion of Lohri, we are going to tell you a very simple recipe of sesame seeds. It is very easy to make and taster delicious.

Ingredients

White sesame seeds - 1 cup
Black sesame seeds - 1 cup
Jaggery - 1 cup
Desi Ghee - 1 tsp
Cardamom Powder - 1/4 teaspoon

Method

- To make sesame laddus, take a heavy-bottomed pan.
- Fry the black and white sesame seeds separately in a low flame, until the fragrance starts coming out.
- Take out the roasted sesame seeds in a plate and keep them aside. Let them cool down completely.
- After cooling, grind the white sesame coarsely.
- Now heat desi ghee in a wok, melt the jaggery in it and keep stirring.
- Put the coarsely ground white sesame seeds, black sesame seeds, cardamom powder in this pan and turn off the gas.
- When this mixture is lightly hot, make a laddu by applying some ghee in your palm.
- Your sesame seeds laddus are ready.

Observed in different parts of the country under different names, including Lohri in North India, Sukarat in Central India, Bihu in Assam, Pongal in Tamil Nadu and Makar Sankranti in Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, and the neighbouring regions, Makar Sankranti denotes the entry of the sun into the zodiac sign of Makara (Capricorn) as it travels on its celestial path and celebrates the harvest season.

On the day of Makar Sankranti, various spiritual practices are observed. It is common for people to take a holy dip in rivers and it is generally believed that doing so would absolve them of their past sins.
