Laughter, ahoy!

Three comics — Britishers Gordon Southern and Ian Moore, and American Dave Fulton were recently in India to perform before an audience in the city. After Hrs asked them if coming to India involved any special kind of preparation.

Gordon’s upbeat and energetic delivery combined with his funny observational comedy and quick witted improvisation has made him the audience’s  favourite.

He says, “I visited India two decades ago. And it amazes me how in this span of time, India has changed so much and put itself on the path of development. For my preparation, I watched a couple of Bollywood movies, the names of which I don’t remember, of course,” he laughs.

“The singing and the dancing stand out in my observation. I hope to use these to my advantage,” he adds.

Ian Moore’s laconic observations on life, from the problems of using the wrong vocabulary in a German pizza store to an almost pathological hatred of open-toed footwear, have proved hugely successful with live audiences.

“India has been a culture shock absolutely. There is chaos on the streets. And until you perform before the audience, you can never know how they will react,” he says.

Dave Fulton has played in clubs from San Francisco to New York, and notched up many TV credits on various TV shows. Coming to India has been a sort of wild experience for him. “I can go anywhere and pee in peace,” he laughs.
