Close your eyes and think of Karwa Chauth. What comes to mind? Perhaps a woman, dressed in a glittering red saree, holding a chhanni (sieve) in her hand, facing her husband. Traditionally on this one-day festival, married women do not consume any food or water from sunrise to moonrise, to increase the longevity of their husbands' life. This year, Karwa Chauth will be celebrated on October 24, 2021, and we are going to give you some helpful tips on how you can fast with ease on this special day.

Eat your Sargi

The meal you have early in the morning or the sargi is the only food that you will be able to consume for the whole day. Therefore, it is important to make sure that you fuel up for a long day of fasting ahead.

Start preparing for the fast one day in advance

As you will not be able to drink any water during the Karwa Chauth fast, it is important that you consume plenty of juices, water, coconut water, and eat fresh fruits to prepare better.

Don't consume caffeine and nicotine

Tea or coffee gives you instant energy, however, they also dehydrate the body. Therefore, it is important to stick to juices and coconut water to keep the energy levels in the body high.

Avoid consuming fried or oily food

The sargi thali should be nutritious and having fried and oily food might make you lethargic or lazy. Try having a roti, sabzi rather than a paratha or a poori.

Take plenty of rest

Because of the complete absence of food or drinks, it is important that you give your body plenty of rest before and during the Karwa Chauth fast.

Brush your teeth

Whenever you crave something, go and brush your teeth to avoid a 'biting sensation'. It might sound weird however, reportedly, the taste of toothpaste and gargling with water gives momentary relief to the taste buds.
