Shawn Lewis brings an absurd play to Mumbai
There are not many theatre directors who can work on absurd plays. But it comes as no surprise that Shawn Lewis is gonna start his journey as a director with this genre. No surpirse because the artiste has already worked with theatre legends like Manav Kaul and others before. "I saw an absurd play in my school days. It affected me so much that when I decied to direct a play, this was the kind of play that came to my mind," says Lewis who expertises in light and art direction. Minimalistic art is what Lewis believes conveys any thought best.
How To Get Rid Of It is a play written by Eugene Ionesco. It revolves around a dead body which is continually growing in the apartment of Amedee and Madeline who have been married for 20 years. They have never left their apartment and have been living with mushrooms sprouting everywhere because of the dead body. The lack of getting rid of the dead body due to apparent suspicious neighbours is what the couple have to deal with. A surprise visit of the postman in the house aims to change the monotony of their lives. And despite being written almost 60 years ago, Lewis believes that the play is still very relevant today. "I relate to it in all aspects," he says.
