How green are you this Christmas?

The term ‘green’ has become the synonymous with every momentous celebration. Come any festival and the word prefixes the jamboree — indeed, Christmas being the latest one.

Special eco-friendly products inundate the market; organic food becomes the flavour of the fest, and green gifting options emerge as the coolest trend.

Also part of the eco-friendly festive package are hideout zones, like farm-houses in the outskirts of the city, which are being rented out for Christmas eve, plus a couple of more days for those who want to revel in a stoic locale and give the hustle bustle of the city a miss.

VJ Anusha Dandekar vouches for a green Christmas. She has been using the same artificial Christmas tree for four years now. “I don’t see the need to get a new Christmas tree every year, I like my four-year-old tree,” smiles Anusha. She also prefers to preserve the decorations and use the same each time. Anusha also ensures that only recycled paper tissues are being used (though she prefers using hand towels over tissues wherever possible) and that there are separate trash bins available for different kinds of wastes.

For singer Sunidhi Chauhan, it’s a regular day at recording but she does imbibe the festive vibes. “Saving electricity and water is what I stick to always, more so during the festive season,” says Sunidhi.

Actor Tusshar Kapoor too is careful of using water and electricity economically, especially during the festive season. “This Christmas, I will clear my wardrobe of old stuff, pack it in a suitcase and donate it to the needy. That’s green for me,” he quips.

Santoor player Rahul Sharma, however, feels that Christmas is the only time of the year when he revels in unadulterated fun. “Trust me, it isn’t so detrimental,” he jokes.

Actress Koena Mitra who is celebrating Christmas in Los Angeles chooses to go green by gifting saplings to her friends. “It’s like a perfect gift that conveys the message of staying eco-friendly,” she says.

With celebs speaking up for the cause, their fans shouldn’t be far behind too, right?
