It's about Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee for Vice President of the United States. As soon as Kamala got nominated for the post of VP, her popularity shot up.

Why is 'YoKamalaSoIndian' trending?

The trend took off after news agency PTI reported that during the California attorney general election in 2010, Harris had asked her Indian aunt Sarala Gopalan in Chennai to break coconuts for luck at a Hindu temple. The aunt lined up 108 coconuts - an auspicious number in Hinduism - to be smashed. Harris won the elections by a margin of 0.8%.

Sensing a perfect opportunity for memes, Indian Twitter users started sharing all sorts of tweets of what it is like to be 'desi.'
