In the search for a healthy eatery that doesn’t compromise on taste, we found ourselves standing outside Seeds of Life one rainy evening. The warmly-lit interiors of this cosy Bandra-based restaurant, pretty green planters hanging from the ceiling and the earthy decor in white, green and brown, looked welcoming and we stepped inside, crossing our fingers and hoping to not find only salads on the menu.

Luckily for us, even the founder, Mohit Bulchandani, shares our opinion, and we settled down to take a look at the menu that offered us everything from pizzas to pastas, burgers, desserts, and, yes, salads! The meat-eater-turned-vegan informed us that while we are sure to find vegan and gluten-free options on their menu, it’s not a completely vegan menu. “But, it’s healthy,” he said, as he took a seat and enquired what we’d like to kick-start our meal with.

The smoothies on the menu had already caught our eye, and being the chocolate lovers that we are, we straightaway ordered Call Me Cacao (Rs 200). We knew they didn’t use refined sugar in any of their dishes and instead, opted for healthy substitutes such as coconut sugar, date syrup and jaggery to sweeten up the drinks and desserts. So, we didn’t have to bother putting on those added calories when we had the lip-smackingly good blend of cacao and banana.

The Mushrooms Gone Nuts (Rs 250) salad with wild mushrooms and walnuts was slightly saltier than how we’d have liked it to be. Maybe go a little lighter on the vinegar next time? However, the Green Pizza (Rs 450) served on an amaranth base with all the goodness of avocado, pesto, zucchini and capsicum was a hit, on both the taste and the health angle. The wraps, including Red Pesto Tofu (Rs 275) and The SOL Extravaganza (Rs 300) were generously filled with exotic veggies. The latter was a non-vegan option with paneer along with veggies. Brownie points for the baked sweet potato fries served with the wraps, which were dusted lightly with chilli powder to balance the sweetness of the vegetable.

The SOL Signature Curry (Rs 395) was comfort in a bowl, with the warmth of a coconut base and veggies. Never to turn away a dessert, and Seeds of Life does have a wide variety of them — we opted for the Rich Chocolate Cake (Rs 250), which turned out to be dense, yet light on the tummy. As Mohit said, healthy food doesn’t have to be boring or expensive. But, yes, it does have to make those taste buds sing!

Verdict: Seeds of Life is a non-fussy eatery, which focusses on health without compromising on taste. Drop by for a bite!
