    Plan your space carefully right in the beginning to achieve accuracy and efficiency

    Interior design should reflect the inhabitant’s personality rather than project latest and coolest design trends

    Each room should have one central piece of attraction. It could be a brightly coloured wall, a piece of art, curios or even a piece of furniture. The eye will be automatically drawn to this piece — which again needs to be in harmony with the remaining elements in the room

    While designing a room, it is very important to take into consideration the size and space available. Plan your furniture based on the scale of your room to avoid clutter

    The room should appear bright and vivid, so avoid using too many colours in small spaces. Avoid heavy draperies with large prints

    The natural lighting and ventilation of a room should be considered before choosing the colour scheme. Decide on the colour after observing it under natural light

    Keep in mind the three categories while planning the lighting of a room — accent lighting to highlight the focal points, general lighting for background illumination and task lighting to highlight certain activities

    The most neglected aspects in a home are the wiring and switch points. Conceal them as much as possible. This can be achieved by pre-planning the locations of the appliances along with the furniture

    The most utilised space of the house — the kitchen — should be ventilated, well-planned, clutter free. It should also be safe and functional. Use materials that are easy to maintain

    Never the fun part, but budgeting is an important aspect of every interior decorating project. Be realistic and try to be as detailed as possible
