Ganesh Chaturthi or Vinayak Chaturthi is celebrated across India every month on the fourth day of Shukla Paksha. During Vinayak Chaturthi, millions of devotees worship Lord Ganesha at noon and Vinayak Chaturthi 2021 is falling on January 16 (Sunday). It is a common belief among Hindus that observing fast on Vinayak Chaturthi or Ganesh Chaturthi brings prosperity to the house.

History behind Vinayak Chaturthi

As per Hindu mythology, Lord Moon or Chandra was proud and arrogant. Once upon a time, Lord Ganesha was riding on his mouse but he fell down as the mouse failed to hold him due to his excessive weight. Lord Moon looked at this incident and started laughing out loud. This act of Lord Moon angered Lord Ganesha and he cursed Lord Moon that whoever will look at the Moon on that particular day will be accused falsely. Lord Moon soon realised his mistake and begged for mercy from Lord Ganesha. The request melted Lord Ganesha's heart and he said that keeping a fast every month on Vinayak Chaturthi will gradually free him from the curse.

Devotees believe that keeping a fast on Vinayak Chaturthi brings success in your life. It is also believed that by observing fast on Vinayak chaturthi or Ganesh Chaturthi you will remain away from obstacles.
