The first thing that came to our minds when we stepped inside the sprawling Dragonfly Experience was a dazzling giant carousel — thanks to the colourful insects motif, the golden lit-up bar,  lamps and the hanging cupid figurines. Then, there’s the super-high ceiling and all the space at Priyank Sukhija and rapper Badshah’s recently-opened hotspot that will enamour the onlooker.

Our entry set us up well for the evening. The friendly staff showed us around and escorted us to our table, which had throne-like chairs that still had some room left after we made ourselves comfortable. Our jaws that had dropped at all the splendour made our mouths thirsty and thus it was only fair that we ordered for something to guzzle down.

The mocktail Donkey Kong (Rs 300), made from guava and pineapple juices, was perfectly blended with neither of the fruit’s taste overpowering the other. Spices and chilli added the right punch to the mix. Our other choice, Final Fantasy (Rs 300), had blackberry, raspberry and rosemary with caramel dust. The combination worked but it was so sweet that it became unpalatable after a few sips. There is a cool Mixology Manga menu that has its pages filled with comics and has ample options for tipplers as well as teetotalers.

The maiden dish of the evening was the appetiser Cheese Lumpia Roll (Rs 495). The spring roll had a crunchy bite and the soft cheese filling was delectable. Bacon Wrapped Prawns (Rs 695), with wasabi dust, were perfectly made, as well. The bacon was just rightly sliced, neither chunky nor thin, and easy to bite into. The prawns were soft yet not overly juicy, which worked in the dish’s favour. Even though wasabi is wont to be, it wasn’t overpowering in this case. This was another great opener, with the right balance of taste and fusion.

(Clockwise from top: Bacon Wrapped Prawns; Ceviche and Carpaccio; Donkey Kong; Edamame and Pecorinio Barley Risotto)

Our Ceviche and Carpaccio (Rs 695) was a mix of mango, avocado, pomelo segment, red onion and chilli jam mayo. Good things happen to those who wait, right? This one took a long time to make it to our table but it was worth it.

While the combination of the first two fruits was great, pomelo proved to the party spoiler with its overwhelming bitter taste. The king here, though, was the chilli jam mayo, which was tongue-tickling and left a pleasantly piquant after-taste.

Next came Oyster Chilli Lamb Dumpling (Rs 575). To begin with, its skin had the right thickness and texture. Minced lamb made for flavourful filling and the better part was that it wasn’t too soggy or dry. The size of the pieces was perfect, which made it easy to gobble them up. The chilli oil and condiments added the right zest and enhanced its taste. Among the range, this definitely stands its ground. From the signature mains, we called for Edamame and Pecorinio Barley Risotto (Rs 695). After the scrumptious meal, this was a bit of a downer. The blandness and chewy texture didn’t please our taste buds. The lack of garnishing only made it less desirable. Regretfully, the parting shot was a dampener but it didn’t take away from all the delish things we sampled one bit!

Verdict: The cost is on the steeper side. But the place is great to spend an evening at, if you are looking for a roomy and plush place.
