Erdem in its Pre-Fall outing accented a printed jumpsuit with a quill stole and Preen’s animal printed dress was peppered with feather trimmings. Pierpaolo Piccioli at Valentino presented a puffer jacket with feathery hints on the sleeves and Givenchy showcased a multi-hued feathered dress. Looks like the undying love affair between fashion and plumage shows no signs of fading out. If internationally, feathers have trickled into day wear, in India, they’ve made their presence felt in the bridal space. Designer Arpita Mehta suggests using fur and feather accents in minimal ways. “Either incorporate it in the form of a trim on a dupatta and a shawl or in the form of sleeves and an off shoulder trim, these are some great ways to pull this trend off,” says Arpita.

Feathers in a spontaneous way can add character to a look. A tiny dose of feathers can be just the antidote spruce up your wardrobe. “A simple black wrap top and a silky skirt looks stellar with the addition of a feather trim, adding texture to an all-black outfit. Feathers add an airy, poetic flair to any kind of style — a flat shoe in particular becomes special when feathers add a lightness especially with a crystal buckle,” says designer Rhea Pillai Rastogi.

ACCENT BRIDAL GLAM

Feathers in the India festive space have emerged to be the new zardozi with more and more brides opting for fur embellished dupattas. Designer Nikhil Thampi observes, “Feathers add a glamorous factor to a bride’s quotient. Flirty ruffled gown, ruffled hems or feathered sari pallus are perfect for a cocktail, enhancing the evening look. It’s perfect for the Indian brides with hues of pastel shades,” says Nikhil.

Designer Swapna Anumolu of Mishru seconds that. “Feathers are a beautiful form of art. If used correctly, they can add a stunning look for the bride. A delicate feather sleeve is ideal for a dinner, lehengas with stellar feather trim is a new element for Indian brides to play with,” says Swapna.

NEXT PARTY WEAR HIT

The feather trend has taken on a real-life spin that can easily be worked into one’s office and weekend ensembles. Feathers are a light and airy way to add flair to your Autumn/ Winter look. Rhea adds, “While sequins and glitter will always be the Saturday night go-to, I feel feathers are going to be the next party-wear hit in 2019. I believe brides in India are now slowly opting for feathers in their pre-wedding outfits but in a minimalistic way. It’s a feminine and soft element which brings the right amount of glamour to an Indian bride’s ensemble.”
