A Holi brunch is traditionally synonymous with pristine whites, sugary pastels and vibrant prints. However, this festive season, it’s all about chintz prints, mirror embellishments and striking neon hues.  “An all-lime green outfit, too, can make a statement. In terms of silhouettes, a pair of relaxed pyjama pants with a loose cape top would be ideal. The look is easy breezy and just in case you get any colour on you, the outfit would not stick to your body. If you are going for brighter colours, it would be nice to team a pair of shorts with a buttoned-down shirt in the same tonal palette,” says designer Arpita Mehta.

She adds, “Keeping comfort as a priority, pairing gladiator sandals with a short flared dress works best. Sandals are a great option if you are going for a stylish yet comfortable look. When it comes to accessories, one can always opt for some simple layered necklaces or can also add a bohemian vibe by wearing tassels.”

AVOID TRANSPARENT FABRICS

Alternatively, women can settle for anything old yet fun and easy; printed loose pants with a tank top work extremely well, too. Designer Nikhil Thampi suggests, “Of course, one should avoid a fabric that is too transparent. Dark hues would be ideal. Men can combine a pair of shorts with a slogan T-shirt or even club a pair of pants with a basic kurta. Bring out your quirky scarves, hair bands and sunglasses; definitely avoid jewellery, fine or faux.”

OFFSET WITH WHITE SNEAKERS

Since it’s a festive occasion, girls can pick vivid hued kurtas and pair them with interesting bottoms like a pair of dhoti pants or a cowl skirt. “A bright fusion jumpsuit teamed with white sneakers also works beautifully,” says designer Swapna Anumolu of label Mishru.

EMBRACE ASYMMETRY

Men, on the other hand, can also go as experimental as they’d like. “Asymmetrical kurtas with jeans is a great choice. One could pair a printed T-shirt with jeans as well. I would recommend quirky sunglasses and cool sneakers for that chic finish,” adds Swapna.

OPT FOR COMFY FOOTWEAR

Men can sport light footwear like espadrilles, mules, sandals and loafers if they don’t want to wear the classic sneakers. “Women can have fun with open-toe shoes, especially flats, depending on their ensemble. Say a big ‘no’ to heels as you do not want to miss out on all the Holi fun by injuring yourself,” says Nishant Kanodia, Founder at SKO Footwear.

THE ART OF ACCESSORISING

No brunch style is complete without a nifty pair of sunnies. Nishant Tulsiani, director of Anaqa Jewels, says, “Sunglasses are a must. Ensure that you wear jewellery made of stainless steel and brass, as they are easy to clean and don’t tarnish when they come in contact with water. Another important thing to bear in mind is to avoid designs with many grooves and indents as the colour tends to get stuck and it would be difficult to remove it. When it comes to footwear, men can sport rubber sole boat shoes, while trendy slippers or pool sliders are great options for women.”
