It’s one thing to get inspired by something and then reinterpret it in your own handwriting but blatantly aping an idea is rather unforgivable. At the recently concluded Lakme Fashion Week, a section of designers borderline-referenced some of the looks seen on international runways and Indian fashion weeks of the last few seasons. Maybe some of them are mere coincidences and sometimes one can’t blame the designers with so much of social media imagery around us but watering down someone else’s vision and passing off the interpretation as your own is rather unacceptable. Over to the seen-it-before looks...

Pinakin and Dries Van Noten

The pictures say it all. The tulle ruffled skirts are blatantly identical.

Farah Sanjana and Fendi

It's rather amusing that Farah's first look an lily print was also Fendi's opening bird of Paradise print (seen at the label's Resort 2016 outing). Coincidence much?

431-88 and h&m

It's heartbreaking when the new generation thinks it's easy to pass off mass retail inspiration like this green number, which was an editorial hit in many magazines and present it as a fresh idea by just slashing the sleeves.

Savio Jon and Viktor and Rolf

The half-and-half montage dress seen at Savio Jon immediately transported us back to its dramatic couture cousin seen on the runway of Viktor Spring Summer 2015.

Vineet Rahul and Anavila

Handlooms (check), organic print (check), botanical print (check), short sari (check), droopy top (check), Anavila Misra Fall 2016 (check). Vineet Rahul double checked!

Ekam and Ikai

The Chanderi applique seems to be the hit route formula, which has been tried and tested in almost the same colour palette on the runways of Ikai by Ragini Ahuja at her recently concluded show at Amazon India Fashion Week. Wonder what Ekam has to say about this interpretation!

Tarun Tahiliani and Sabyasachi

The godet gradiation in Tarun skirt reminded us of Benarasi interpretation seen at Sabya's Firdaus couture collection.

Swati Vijaiwargie and Mara Hoffman

Taking the same inspiration which is so deeply rooted in a certain culture can be very tricky as motifs can make a garment look almost identical.

Karn Malhotra and Alexandre Vauthier

It's kinda same same but different! The draping lines and the willpower neckline can't help us but make us take a note of this opening Bella Hadid opening number seen at Alexandre Vauthier at the recently Paris couture week.
