City confectioners are offering many options just right for the occasion.
When you step out on Christmas today, there are a number of shops you can visit to sample the special goodies for the festival. The wide variety of delicious cakes alone promises to make this festival a memorable one.
At Naaz Bakery in Camp, wine cakes are being made specially for this festive season. Harshad Ali of Empire Bakery on Sachapir Street said it’s their walnut cake that’s the hot buy for their customers.
Going beyond the typical, Brownie Point in Wanavdi has a wide range of innovative Christmas specials. Taaniya Ranglani said, “We offer a whole lot of desserts made of fruits and nuts such as golden cherry and almond cake, toffee nut fruitcake, pineapple and apple fruitcake and rich hazelnut fruitcake.”
Taaniya said mothers love picking up gingerbread cookies and house cakes for the kids. “But the perfect ones to end your family Christmas dinner would be the liquor cakes. We have cakes with whiskey, rum, vodka, Kahlua and Baileys,” she said.
Bread Story in Koregaon Park, Magarpatta and Kalyaninagar also have their cake counters filled with specialties like vanilla classic (vanilla and chocolate cream cake), blueberry and marble muffins.
On the other side of town, the Patio in Aundh has some interesting goodies on offer. Owner Jai Patel said, “Our frosted cupcakes with Santa Claus face, Christmas tree as well as snowman are popular.” The Patio also has Chocolate Yule Logs along with their famous Sleeping Pill (chocolate fudge dunked in chocolate sauce).
Just Baked on Dhole Patil Road has a plum cake for Rs300,. Vikram Murthy of Murthy Sweets in Somwar Peth said, “Our plum cakes are for Rs60 and Rs120. We have Marzipan Sweets, dry fruit biscuits and cherry chocolates.”
