Maya Angelou, American author, poet, dancer, actress and singer once said, “Eating is so intimate. It’s very sensual.” We would like to add to that, “Eating is also a sensory dining experience.” And you can be a part of it at Romano’s latest promotion aptly called Aromas. The brainwave of Chef Roberto Zorzolli, it’s an innovative way to get people to experience Italian food. Using aromatic herbs like rosemary, thyme, oregano, spices like saffron and nutmeg, and coffee, vanilla and orange, chef has created distilled fragrances. The idea is to give diners a chance to pair select edible fragrances with the food ordered from an exclusive a la carte menu. It’s a rare opportunity to play with your palate and your food.

Spray a fragrance on your burrata or lamb

We started off the meal with the Baby burrata with lychee, and decided to see how the rosemary fragrance would go with it. As per chef’s instructions, we sprayed the rosemary fragrance in the air and then on the burrata (We repeated the same process for every dish we tried, spraying different edible fragrances in the air and then on the food served at the table). The fragrance in the air titillates your sense of smell getting it to play along with your tastebuds.  The combination results in a tantalising sensory experience. Each time we tried a bite with a different fragrance, the taste would change, as it added its own subtle touch. Next in line, we went with the Pan seared boneless chicken wings with house made barbeque sauce that was absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. Rosemary, coffee and even orange works with this dish. For the mains, we recommend you go with the House made Tagliolini pasta with black garlic, chilli and extra virgin olive oil. Spray the oregano or the orange fragrance on this one for a different taste. For those not in the know, black garlic is actually aged garlic that’s added for its unique flavour profile. Save the coffee fragrance to spray on lamb or a chicken dish or try it with the Deconstructed tiramisu. That’s a sweet end to the meal.

Overall verdict

If you are looking for an interactive sensory food experience, this one will satiate those cravings. The flavours are subtle and the food is art on a plate.
