The party season is here and it’s accessories that can pretty much make or break an otherwise well-planned look.

While statement pieces work when adorned on an understated outfit, jewellery designer Shaheen Abbas says the colours to flaunt this season are amethyst and various shades of green. “The maximum number of jewellery pieces that sold from my collection this season were in these shades. Citrines and even blues are slow moving and not very preferred for all parties,” she adds.

Jewellery designer Ayesha Kapur also advocates purple accessories for the social season. She works with unique materials like horn and bone and says that these colourful materials can be teamed with even plain tees. “Purple looks great with white and black. If you are in a funky mood — the colour matches with magenta pink. Accessories with loads of chains in single or bunched up strands in black, metallic, gunmetal, dark silver and dull gold make for great evening accessories,” adds Ayesha.

Fashion designer Babita Malkani says that the key to a perfect look is to not overdo it. “If you are wearing a printed dress then go for one accessory — a finger ring, a cuff or just earrings,” suggests Babita, adding that there are a range of options that go beyond just gold and silver jewellery to experiment with this season. Her accessories have jewellery made of fabric, some crafted out of the bark of a tree and embellished with studs, stones and strips of leather.

Fusion, says Shaheen, is the order of the day. “A jadau cuff, for instance, will look very good on a cocktail dress. Indian-ness enhances the look of any western outfit,” she explains, adding that when it comes to Indian wear, nothing works like a pair of statement earrings.
