Athletic chic spills into SS 15

At New York Fashion Week, the skirt gets most designer's focus - from tea length to its trumpet avatar - the hemlines grazed the calves. Stripes and gingham were the leitmotifs in most collections.

Prabal Gurung
Inspiration: Himalayas
Slashed knits were cut in a way so as to expose a shoulder or a hint of the waist. Asymmetrical wraps were paired with hiking trousers with many zippers. Billowing scarves, feathers, ruffles, mountain-landscape silk jacquards were recurring in most looks. There was a push on deconstruction and the show was closed by strapless gowns with racer back tanks.

Inspiration: Rosemary's Baby and Barry Lyndon.
The collection saw a plenty of gingham lunch suits with skirts having a high middle slit. Striped Moroccan blankets were reimagined into asymmetric wrap dresses and skirts. Leather latticework pieces inspired by Renaissance architecture were the highlights. Striped shirt dresses cinched at the waist with leather belts had a sporty edge to them and also radited a va va voom aesthetic.

Diane Von Furstenberg
Inspiration: Côte d'Azur
Lots of bra tops and ample leg show - the collection gloried in hip sensuality. Gingham wrap dresses, stripes and DvF's signature leaf prints were seen. Mesh corsets were paired with a striped hourglass dress and jersey tank dress had thigh-high slits. Naomi Campbell closed the show in an abstract printed tank dress.

Inspiration: New York street style
The collection was rich on kaleidoscopic prints and rugby stripes. Voluminous tea-length dresses and calf-grazing trumpet skirts were clubbed with ribbed chokers, crisp white high-tops. Paying an homage to the diverse and eclectic street style of NYC, the collection saw embellishments like mirrored paillettes and wooden beads on tunics and minis.

Victoria Beckham
Inspiration: Military uniform dressing
The opening piece was a camel toned coat with a deep neckline fastened with a two-toned belt. Sporty sweaters and multi-pocketed jackets were paired with mid-calf length striped print skirts. Epaulets and patch pockets accentuated the outerwear. Footwear was definitely the the hero offering.
