The music is just the way we like it — neither blaring, nor inaudible. The lights are bright enough for us to click some decent images of the food, when it arrives in front of us. Welcome to Chimichurri, the latest addition to Andheri East’s neighbourhood and what a welcome addition it is!

The all-day-diner offers pan-Asian cuisine and has recently opened its doors to the public. When we visit the Marol-based restaurant for dinner on a Sunday night, it’s buzzing with families enjoying a night out and groups of youngsters looking on as South Africa and Bangladesh cricket teams battle it out on the big screens placed strategically around the eatery.

TO BEGIN WITH...

We settle down to place our orders and the server suggests we try the Sizzling Chimichurri Chicken (Rs 339) and the Crispy Golden Corn Salt N Pepper (Rs 289). The former, a spicy, garlicky dish and the latter with its tangy kick of bird eye chilli, go  perfectly well with a Lemon Basil Margarita (Rs 449).

The eatery also offers an array of sushis, dimsums and baos to choose from and we feel spoilt for choice. First up, are the Veg California Roll (Rs 339, for four pieces) and Tempura Shrimps (Rs 349, for four pieces). Both dishes pack in a punch and if you are a sushi fan, then we suggest you go for these.

(Clockwise from top left) Coconut Crepes; Srilankan Devil Curry; Prawns & Chicken Sui Mai

By now, we are craving for something spicy again, and the Devil’s Chicken Bao  (Rs 449) with its crunchy chicken slices in a piquant Srilankan curry-flavoured sauce perks up matters. In contrast, the Roast Chicken Chilli Bao (Rs 289) is a tad tame, and meant for those who don’t want to go for the spicy variant. The Prawns & Chicken Sui Mai (Rs 319) comes generously packed with flavour and if it’s only one plate of dimsums on the table, just order these.

THE ‘MAIN’ POINT

The Chef comes out of the kitchen to ensure we are enjoying the food and on his suggestion, we call for the Thai Green Curry, Chicken (Rs 409) that comes with jasmine rice and the Srilankan Devil Curry, chicken (Rs 409). The spicy and slightly sweet Curry is comfort in a bowl and we settle down to take in the flavours of the coconut milk and lemongrass. But it’s the aptly named Srilankan Devil Curry that wins hands down! Served in a heavy stone bowl, the curry is spicy, tangy and sweet. The jasmine rice is the perfect accompaniment to this yellow curry. A few spoonfuls of the flavourful dish and we are ready to call it a night, but not before we end it on a sweet note.

OF SWEET ENDINGS

Palm sugar and browned coconut are sandwiched inside crepes that have been given a sweet miso glaze. But the Coconut Crepes (Rs 249) are strictly for those who like the fruit in a dessert avatar. We prefer the Asian Ice Cream Bowl (Rs 249), a melange of coconut, wasabi and honey chilli basil ice cream. The three flavours are a creamy mix of sweet and tangy.

Verdict: The all-day diner delivers on both fronts — flavours and ambience.

Put Chimichurri on your must-visit list!
