As the intriguing title suggests, ‘What The Pandemic Learned From Me’ brings rare humorous insights into human behavior during the major mayhem of the millennia – the corona pandemic, and charts fresh territory in bringing alive its familiar and endearing experiences. The book is a delightful recapping of the emotional roller-coaster that we all went through, wrapped in whimsical positivity, all the while processing the rapidly changing world around us.

The prevalent environment of melancholy, the endless churning of social media obituaries, the gnawing fear of the virus and the scary statistical predictions was taking a toll on the mental health of most people. This inspired Advertising Creative Director, Anindita Das to write something that could help alleviate the situation. Like many others living away from home and coping with the challenges of surviving alone for more than a year, the author too searched for creative distractions to take care of her physical as well as mental well-being. The result of this was many big or small discoveries about herself and people at large.

Commenting on the book, Das says, “I never planned on writing this book, but the extraordinary experiences that we went through collectively as a society urged me to pen it down. I hope amongst the many distractions, this can be a small delightful one for anyone looking for a break from distressing things.”

Published by Evincepub Publication, the book is already being loved by a wide range of readers. Within two days of its launch on Amazon, it received the No. 1 bestseller in the humor and self-help categories along with trending in the Hot New Releases section. Techie and an avid reader, Venkata Sriram Kumar says, “Writing straight from her heart about experiences during the pandemic, with plenty of humor and satirical tone as undercurrent she narrates various situations and happenings due to the pandemic outside. And the resultant chaos inside, both literally and metaphorically.”

The author’s experience in writing for some of the biggest brands of the country is well reflected in her sharp insights, witty comebacks, and dry humor. It takes the reader on a nostalgic journey of an experience which may not be over yet, and nonetheless provides a fresh perspective on everything that we have been through. The book also uses the socially trending open letter format in easy flowing language to address its unusual addressees. Right from the ever-intruding presence of social media in our lives to ironical changes in student life to everyone’s obsession with grocery and Goa. Her narrative is engagingly creative and often resembles content that is highly shared on social platforms. In the hilarious letter addressed to ‘Viruses’ she lists a number of new viruses that have quietly made their way into our lives. For instance, “Chinchinditis: A condition of acute confusion regarding where one should wear one’s mask. Spreads from colony to colony through a process known as ‘other people are also doing this.’ Has been known to be fatal.”

Commenting on the book, Manish Bhatt, Creative Head and Founder of August Communications added, “Enjoyed reading this lighthearted book filled with clever insights into ourselves and the world around us. A guaranteed cure for lockdown blues, it made me feel we're all together in it, and filled me with hope. Plan on keeping it by my bedside for a quick shot of hopefulness. Rooting for a sequel now.”

At one point in the book, the author lists the essentials of lockdown happiness as follows, “A nice window, a Netflix connection, a few good books, and a loaded pantry mostly does the trick. A couple of genuine friends, a well-bruised passport, a few Instagram stalkers, and an imaginary pet couldn’t hurt either.” If we had to add just one more thing to this ready list, it would absolutely be the company of her easy-on-the-soul-book.

Written with just the right amount of witty humor and sarcasm, it’s like a happy song that puts you in a good mood. It’s like a not-so-demanding friend for the ones going through a reading slump, like being in good company for the ones on the go, and like a pleasant stranger for the ones who are just starting their reading journey. All in all, it’s an honest attempt to ruminate, amuse and massively entertain.
