The Met Gala 2019, a highly-anticipated fashion extravaganza, was held yesterday amidst much pomp and splendour at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The celebrations kick-started with a cocktail hour, in which guests walked the red carpet, proceeding for dinner and enjoying the evening’s performances. This year’s theme was ‘Camps: Notes On Fashion.’ Contrary to popular notion that it meant embracing nature and sporting accessories such as hiking boots and backpacks, it actually meant celebrating artificialness and extravagance.
All eyes were on Lady Gaga and Harry Styles who were the hosts of the evening alongside Gucci’s Alessandro Michele, Serena Williams and Anna Wintour. The multiple Grammy-winning songstress was attending the prestigious event after three years while this was Harry’s first appearance at the Met Gala.
Earlier, Lady Gaga, who is a fashion chameleon in the true sense of the term, has made headlines with her jaw-dropping ensembles. In 2016, when the theme was ‘Manus x Machina: Fashion In An Age Of Technology,’ she opted for a silver sequined getup comprising a bodysuit, jacket and fishnet tights from Versace. A bright red pout and big hair completed the look. In 2015, for the ‘China: Through The Looking Glass’ theme, she sported a black-and-cream gown from Balenciaga (designed by Alexander Wang) with a matching headpiece.
For a pre-Met Gala dinner on Sunday night, the Academy Award winner was spotted in a short Marc Jacobs 2019 Fall runway black-and-white striped dress with layered ruffles. Staying true to her love for wacky accessories, she completed the look with a black fascinator, matching combat boots and a miniscule purse.
The fashion fiesta also saw the likes of Bradley Cooper, Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, our very own Priyanka Chopra Jonas along with husband Nick Jonas, Lupita Nyong’o and Donatella Versace.
It was a moment of pride for India as the country’s two leading ladies — Priyanka and Deepika Padukone put their stylish foot forward for the evening. Earlier, the latter was spotted in an all-denim jumpsuit and pink Balenciaga mules at Mumbai airport when she was on her way to New York to attend the prestigious event.

While last year, the Padmaavat actress made heads turn in a red silk-crepe Prabal Gurung gown, in 2017, there were not many takers for her white Tommy Hilfiger satin slip dress gown with a plunging neckline.
All eyes were on Priyanka and Nick as this was the first time the duo was attending the Met Gala after tying the knot. It’s a known fact that PC and Nick were first spotted together at the same event two years ago when they sported Ralph Lauren creations. Earlier, the Quantico actress took to social media. Sharing that the story of “How I MET your father” is the “story I’ll definitely tell our future kids...”, she posted two photographs with her husband Nick. While Priyanka’s 2017 Ralph Lauren trench coat inspired many memes, the following year, the actress was the cynosure of all eyes in a maroon-and-gold gown, which was embellished with Swarovski crystals, beadwork and intricate embroidery.
