Here’s how to nail summer’s freshest hues...
Season in, season out, fashion delivers variations on a template. And for spring summer, it’s often a gripping runway vocabulary of marshmallow pinks, buttercup yellows and powdery blues. This season too, brands like Chanel, Versace, Giambattista Valli and closer home, Amit Aggarwal, Anavila and Anita Dongre conjured an unapologetically unironic vision of pretty. Designer Amit Aggarwal shares, “Pastels have always set in the mood for summer. The best way to make the fruity palette look chic is to mix it either with neutral or bold colours. Keep an eye out for outfits that are more suitable to your personality. With pastels and bold accessories, you achieve a look that is bound to draw attention.”
One can pair pastel-toned midi-skirts with cool wrap tops for a lazy Sunday brunch or with edgy crop tops for a glamorous night-out in town. Anita Dongre’s Grassroot line is a cornucopia of soft colours and prints. “You can also update your look with elegant long line jackets in flowery pastels or opt for jumpsuits, which are stylish as well as comfortable,” says Anita. Complete your ensemble with pretty embroidered flat shoes and minimal jewellery for an easy chic look.
Minty hues clashed with prints and metallics have the prowess to dramatically transmogrify a summer ensemble. Designer Anavila Misra shares, “Powdery pastel shades interspersed with whites or stripes coupled with prints and a bit of silver will make for a fresh summer look.”
From millennial pink to powder blue to pale yellow — one’s spoilt for choice. Nandita Mahtani suggests keeping it pretty yet cool in a simple silhouette. “Accessorise the look with either the same colour or a nude tone bag and stilettos. Nevertheless, if that’s too much, white never fails. One element from the look can be in a sorbet shade, either one separate or the accessories which stands out against all white, looking effortlessly chic,” she says.
