Each and every person in world strives to be happy. And today is the day to celebrate happiness. Every year, March 20 is celebrated at International Happiness Day. People find happiness in different things. For some people money is happiness while for others spending time with family and friends is happiness. Some people are happy while travelling while some are happy while exerting. The medium can be different, but they all deliver the same goal- Happiness.

Since 2013, the United Nations has celebrated the International Day of Happiness as a way to recognise the importance of happiness in the lives of people around the world. The General Assembly of the United Nations in its resolution of July, 12 2012 proclaimed March 20 the International Day of Happiness, recognizing the relevance of happiness and well-being as universal goals

The resolution was initiated by Bhutan, which recognized the value of national happiness over national income and famously adopted the goal of Gross National Happiness over Gross National Product.

The World Happiness Report 2021 focuses on the effects of COVID-19 and how people all over the world have fared. The report focused on effects of COVID-29 on people’s lives and to describe how governments across the world handled the pandemic.

In the 2021 report, Finland was ranked as the happiest country in the world, for the fourth time in a row. It was followed by Denmark, Switzerland, Iceland, and the Netherlands grabbing the second, third, fourth, and fifth positions, respectively. Afghanistan was ranked the least happy nation. India ranked 139 out of 149 countries in the report. Pakistan ranked 105th, China 84th, Sri Lanka 129th and Bangladesh 101st.

The survey for the Wold Happiness report 2021 used the Gallop World Poll. In this, people had to vote on three indicators- life evaluations, positive emotions, and negative emotions. In addition to this, the poll considered and evaluated data related to a county’s per capita Gross Domestic Product (GDP) while analysing other factors like social support, freedom to make choices, life expectancy and corruption perception.

Since its a day of happiness, you can go feed the homeless and poor and provide them with some utilities. This will not only bring a smile to their faces but to yours as well. If you’re an animal lover, you can feed stray animals as well.

You can make your friends or family happy by taking them out for dinner or making them dinner yourself. But before embarking on the journey to make others happy, you should remember to make yourself happy first.
