Vicky Kaushal was the first choice to play the character of Vicky in the horror comedy film Stree. Due to a scheduling conflict with Manmarziyaan, he turned down the offer and the role eventually went to Rajkummar Rao. The film became a major breakthrough for Rao.

Kaushal was offered the role of cricketer Mohinder Amarnath in the movie 83, which was based on India's 1983 Cricket World Cup victory. Seeking lead roles, he declined the part, and Saqib Saleem ultimately portrayed Amarnath in the film.
