This is a contemporary take on the smash hit from Ishq. While the lyrics are fresh, the main chorus brings back a heady wave of nostalgia...especially with Ajay Devgn on the screen! Composer Amaal Malik has added fun element to the song. The original was sung by Alka Yagnik and Kavita Krishnamurthy, who I’ve idolised and looked up to for as long as I can remember. So, it was a big responsibility being a part of the recreation.
I’ve just completed a long USA tour with Salim-Sulaiman and it’s been one of the best phases of my life — so much to learn from them. My twin sister Prakriti and I have a busy Diwali this year doing two concerts overseas — at Guangzhou in China and Antwerp, Belgium. I have recorded quite a few songs but will know only when they release.
As a singer, it’s incredible that I get to just go to the studio and do my best. Sometimes, I sing a scratch and other times, I don’t even realise that I have dubbed a complete song without any preparation. I don’t worry about the outcome or the release date of the song. I enjoy the moment, have a blast at the dub and then forget about it.
Akriti didi has been an inspiration and support system over all these years. I owe a lot of my success in the industry and life in general to her guidance and teachings. She is an approachable friend and a philosopher whenever necessary. She is such a balanced and good human being; just being around her for a while has a positive impact on anyone. She constantly encourages me but is also my biggest critic.
My favourite song sung by Akriti didi is Pritam Da’s Mohabbat Aapse (Aa Dekhe Zara) and Prakriti’s would be Katra Katra (Alone). It was her first Bollywood release and I heard her for the first time in such a mature voice.
