Hi,
I'm lesbian from Thane and I don't see as much acceptance for lesbians as there is for gay men and even trans people. People thinks lesbianism is a temporary phase. How to explain to them that it's a lifelong orientation. I have tried to be with a boy, but I felt nothing for him. With a women, I feel from the heart. How can we be accepted more in society as lesbians?

Dear Lifelong Lesbian,
It's true that there is very less acceptance for lesbians and this is maybe because people are extremely homophobic – whether they agree or not. Acceptance is very less for other LGBT people too.
There are a couple of support groups in Mumbai that provide safe spaces for LBT women, and organizations such as The Gaysi Family and Umang conduct various events for LBT women.
These groups are very inclusive and close knit.
About people thinking that the sexual orientation of a person is a phase, they need a reality check not you! You don't have to date or be with a boy to reassure yourself that you are homosexual. Be with whom you want be with!
Love is love, and eventually (and hopefully) people should come around to understanding it! Acceptance will come – it will take time – but it will come for sure.
